Flexible seating is a research-based alternative to typical classroom seating. Flexible seating in our classroom will allow students to choose a seat that works best for them.

what is it?

why do we use it?

Research shows that implementing flexible seating in the classroom can:

  • improve students' attention spans

  • make students more actively engaged in learning

  • give students an active outlet without disrupting other learners

  • motivate students to want to come to school

  • accommodate a diverse range of needs

  • help develop a sense of community among students

  • encourage independence and responsibility

how does it work?

During the first few weeks of school, students will learn about the rules and expectations for flexible seating, and how to choose a seat that best fits their learning style. Once students learn how to responsibly use all seating options, they will be permitted to choose their own seat each week.
